The cuisine in Bologna will always delight the visitors to this city.
The culinary tradition is constantly there and they do mix the
modern with the traditional without sacrificing any creativity.
Typical dishes like the puff pasty dishes, as well as the famous
tasting mortadella (ham), the tiny tortellini as well as the pale
yellow tagliatelle with meat sauce.
The wines of the area are really sought after throughout the world
and with regional wines like Barbera, Cabarnet Sauvignon, Merlot,
Pinot Bianco, Riesling Italico and Lambrusco to name but a few.
They say (old wives tale) that the tortellini was invented by some
local cook, who was so enchanted after having seen Venus’ navel,
that he wanted to reproduce it with his own hands.
The pastry shops and ice cream parlours as well as the small traditional
restaurants like the Al Caminetto dOro, the Meloncello and the Belle
Arti as well as the Boni are just around the corner from the Piazza
XVIII Agosto.
The more expensive restaurants like the I Carracci, where one can
taste the best of haute cuisine, and as you walk down via Indipendenza
one will find Ristorante Diana, or the Franco Rossi, and do not forget
to book a table at the Pappagalo, which is world famous and is not
far from the Due Torri , which is the two towers.
Pizzerias are plentiful here but are not the number one in this neighbourhood.
The famous pizza would be a lot more popular further south. Pizzerias
like the Il Doge and the Piedigrotta are beside the Piazza Maggiore
and next to the stadium is the ever popular Al Tavolaccio.
International cuisine is also opening up around the city. India restaurant
has great curries, Piedra del Sol specialises in Mexican food, Budda
is more a taste of Thailand that is not far from the University,
and for some Greek dishes, try the La Taverna Partenone right next
to the Piazza XVIII Agosto. The Chinese restaurant is also getting
very popular and there is the Ru Yi restaurant as well as the Acquario
restaurant.
